What Is The HUB?
Who & WhatThe HUB after school drop-in program is available to all 5th – 12th grade students. The majority of teens who frequent The HUB are of middle school age. We are located in the basement of Langley United Methodist Church (LUMC), The HUB welcomes youth to drop in and enjoy a hot meal, play games, chat, do homework, play music, work on art projects, and enjoy our safe, inclusive social environment. The HUB offers a drug-free zone where there is a strong ethic of respect and acceptance supervised by our employees, Shelly Benton, Program Manager, Erin Crouch and Cheryl Arechiga are our cooks who prepare a hot meal every day!
History. In the late 1980’s an after-school program was started by Langley United Methodist Church, with the intention that it become a separate non-profit. That non-profit, the South Whidbey Youth Center, later renamed the South Whidbey Youth Central has operated the program for the last 33 years.
